'देश धरम पर मिटने वाला, शेर शिवा का छावा था I

महापराक्रमी परम प्रतापी, एक ही शंभू राजा था II'

मला आवडलेल्या पुस्तकांवर लिहिता लिहिता, मी श्री शिवाजी सावंत लिखित ‘छावा’ बद्दल लिहायला सुरवात केली खरी पण मग मी पुन्हा पुन्हा छावा वाचत राहिलो. फक्त मराठीच नव्हे तर सर्वच भारतीयांनी छावा कादंबरी वाचलीच पाहिजे, याची अनेक कारणे आहेत - आपला खरा इतिहास आपल्याला माहित असणं आवश्यक आहे, दुर्दैवाने तथाकथित पुरोगामी आणि बुद्धीजिवी वर्गाने जो शालेय अभ्यासक्रम तयार केला आहे त्यात आजही मुघलांचेच जास्त गोडवे गायले  जातात - किती क्रूर पणे श्री छत्रपती संभाजी महाराजांचा वध क्रूरकर्मा धर्मांध औरंगझेबाने केला हे शालेय अभयासक्रमात कधीच येत नाही. श्री गुरुगोविंदसिंगांच्या कोवळ्या बालकांनाही याच क्रूर मुघल सत्तेने फक्त धर्मांध जिहादी भावनेतूनच मारले पण तथाकथित पुरोगामी भारतीय समाज मुघलांचे गोडवे गाण्यातच धन्यता मानतो. २०१९ च्या पूर्वार्धात स्वरा भास्करने असेच मुगलांचे गोडवे गाणारे ट्विट केले होते त्या वेळेला मी छावा वाचत होतो - मनापासून वाटले कुणीतरी या बाईला सांगावे कि बाई तुम्ही छावा वाचाच.

श्री छत्रपती संभाजी राजे मला खऱ्या अर्थाने साक्षात भारताचेच मानचिन्ह वाटतात. कलाप्रिय, शूरवीर, धार्मिक, अत्यंत उदार मनाचे, सर्वाना आधार देणारे, प्रेम करणारे पण सदैव स्वकीय शत्रूमुळे, घरभेद्यांमुळे संकटात येणारे. भारतही असाच नाही का? ज्यू असोत कि पारशी किंवा अगदी दलाई लमा असोत सर्वांना भारताने सदैव आश्रयच दिला पण स्वतःच्याच पाकिस्तानातल्या पंजाबी हिंदू शिखांना, स्वतःच्याच काश्मिरी पंडितांना, बांगलादेशी हिंदूंना  भारत पूर्णपणे वाचवू शकला नाही.

मराठी राजांनी सुरतेहून आलेल्या सुलतानाच्या सुनेला आदरपूर्वक अगदी मातेप्रमाणे वागवून परत पाठवले पण याच सुलतानांच्या राज्यात अगदी दरबारी हिंदूंच्या कुलस्त्रीयाही सुरक्षित नव्हत्या मग सर्वसाधारण रयतेच्या स्थिती बद्दल काय सांगावे. हजारो मंदिरे तोडण्यात आली, मुघलांनी पोर्तुगीजानी निशस्त्र रयतेला गोरगरिबांना बाटवले त्यांचे जबरदस्ती धर्मांतर केले. श्री शिवाजी राजांनी बजाजी निंबाळकरांना सन्मानाने पुन्हा हिंदू धर्मात आणले पण असे प्रयत्न मोठ्या प्रमाणात का झाले नाहीत? इतरांनी राजांचा आदर्श घेऊन हे करायला हवे होते. इथे कुणाही एका धर्मावर किंवा समुदायावर रोष किंवा टीका नाही - पण वाईट याचे वाटते कि हिंदूंच्या दुःखावर आणि हिंदूंवर झालेल्या अन्यायावर अगदी आजही प्रामाणिक पणे उपाय होताना दिसत नाही. आपल्यातच फूट पाडून त्याचा फायदा परकीय आक्रमक सदैव घेत आले आहेत, अगदी आजही हेच चालू आहे.

‘छावा’ च्या शेवटच्या काही प्रकरणांमधून श्री संभाजी राजांचे एक कुशल शासक म्हणून रूप पुढे येते, श्री छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या महानिर्वाणानंतर श्री संभाजी राजांनी अत्यंत कुशल पणे अनेक संकटांना तोंड देउन श्रींच्या स्वराज्याचे रक्षण केले परंतु स्वार्थाने अंध झालेल्या घरभेद्या गद्दारांमुळेच श्री संभाजी राजे क्रूरकर्मा औरंगझेबाच्या तावडीत सापडले. क्रूर जिहादी औरंगझेबाने अत्यंत अमानुष पणे श्री संभाजी राजांचा वध केला. परंतु तेजस्वी, धर्मवीर श्री संभाजी राजे आणि त्यांचा पराक्रम, त्यांचा त्याग प्रत्येक भारतीय मनात चिरंतनत टिकून राहील.

अनेक भोळ्या भाबड्या विविध जाती जमातींच्या लोकांनी राजांची शेवट पर्यंत साथ केली, त्यांच्यावर प्रेम केले, निष्ठा ठेवली. काही गद्दार निघाले पण हजारो इमानीही होते आणि म्हणूनंच भारतीय समाज जोडण्यासाठीच श्री संभाजी राजांचे गर्वाने आणि प्रेमाने स्मरण केले पाहिजे - हिंदू धर्म वाढवण्यासाठी , हिंदू धर्म समर्थ करण्यासाठीच श्री संभाजी राजांना प्रेरणास्रोत मानून कार्य केले पाहिजे. त्यांचे शौर्य आणि त्याग महान आहे. आणि श्री शिवाजी सावंत यांनी लिहिलेला छावा हे श्री संभाजी राजांचे एक अजरामर स्मारक आहे.

 

While writing on the books I liked, I again read 'Chhava' written by Shri Shivaji Sawant many times. There are many reasons why all Indians must read this novel. We need to know our true history, unfortunately the school curriculum created by the so-called progressive and intellectual class still sings glories of the Mughals without giving due credit & significance to the Indic Heroes. – It was the worst kind of cruelty in human history the way that fanatic Aurangzeb brutally tortured and killed Shree Sambhaji Raaje. And this history is not taught in schools. The same fanatical jihadist Mughals killed innocent children of Shree Guru Gobind Singhji for same reasons they killed Shree Sambhaji Raaje.  I was reading the CHAVA once again when Swara Bhaskar tweeted singing glories for Mughals  - I felt deeply hurt due to her chosen ignorance on real history of India.

Shree Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raaje was the true son of India. Artistic, brave, religious, extremely generous, supportive of all, loving but always landed in trouble due to traitors. Isn't India the same? India always provided patronage to all, whether Jews or Parsis or even the Dalai Lama. But we failed to fully protect our own Hindus & Sikhs in Pakistan, our own Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus in Bangladesh.  

The Marathi kings gave respect & protection to daughter in law of Sultan of Surat who got caught in war. But same Sultans & their army never treated Indian Hindu women with respect they always looted, raped & forcefully converted them – same is still happening in Pakistan & Bangladesh. Thousands of Hindu temples were demolished by Mughals, Mughals & Portuguese forced the unarmed common public to convert to Islam or Christianity. Shree Shivaji Raaje brought Bajaji Nimbalkar back to Hinduism with dignity but why such efforts were not made by other rulers? Here I am not at all expressing any anger or criticism on any other religion or community but even today we do not see anyone making genuine efforts to understand the historic injustice made to Hindus. Till date we Hindus are divided and there are people who are taking advantages of this division.

In the last few episodes of 'Chhava', we witness Shree Sambhaji Raaje as a skillful ruler. Though the cruel jihadist Aurangzeb killed him in a very inhumane manner - the brilliant dharmaveer Shree Sambhaji Raaje and his might, his sacrifice will remain in every Indian heart forever.

Many patriotic common people of different castes & tribes fully supported Shree Sambhaji Raaje, they loved him and remained always loyal to him. To strengthen the Indian society, Shree Sambhaji Raaje should be always remembered with pride and affection. ‘Chhava’, written by Shree Shivaji Sawant, is an eternal monument of Shree Sambhaji Raaje.
