निश्चयाचा महामेरु । बहुत जनांसी आधारु । अखंड स्थितीचा निर्धारु । श्रीमंत योगी ॥
परोपकाराचिये राशी । उदंड घडती जयासी । तयाचे गुणमहत्त्वासी । तुळणा कैची ॥
यशवन्त कीर्तिवन्त । सामर्थ्यवंत वरदवन्त । नीतिवन्त पुण्यवंत । जाणता राजा ॥
आचारशीळ विचारशीळ । दानशीळ धर्मशीळ । सर्वज्ञपणे सुशीळ । सकळां ठायी ॥
नरपति हयपति गजपति । गडपति भूपति जळपति । पुरंदर आणि शक्ती । पृष्ठभागीं ॥
धीर उदार गंभीर । शूर क्रियेसि तत्पर । सावधपणे नृपवर । तुच्छ केले ॥
तीर्थेक्षेत्रे मोडिली । ब्राह्मणस्थाने भ्रष्ट जाली । सकळ पृथ्वी आंदोळली । धर्म गेला ॥
देव-धर्म-गोब्राह्मण । करावया संरक्षण । हृदयस्थ जाला नारायण । प्रेरणा केली ॥
उदंड पंडित पुराणिक । कवीश्वर याज्ञिक वैदिक । धूर्त तार्किक सभानायक । तुमच्या ठायी ॥
या भूमंडळाचे ठायी । धर्मरक्षी ऐसा नाही । महाराष्ट्रधर्म राहिला काही । तुम्हां कारणे ॥
आणिकही धर्मकृत्ये चालती । आश्रित होऊन कित्येक राहती । धन्य धन्य तुमची कीर्ती । विश्वीं विस्तारिली ॥
कित्येक दुष्ट संहारिला । कित्येकांसी धाक सुटला । कित्येकांस आश्रयो ज़ाहला । शिवकल्याण राजा ॥
तुमचे देशी वास्तव्य केले । परंतु वर्तमान नाही घेतले । ऋणानुबंधे विस्मरण जाले । काय नेणो ॥
सर्वज्ञ मंडळी धर्ममूर्ती । सांगणे काय तुम्हाप्रती । धर्मसंस्थापनेची कीर्ती । सांभाळिली पाहिजे ॥
उदंड राजकारण तटले । तेणे चित्त विभागले । प्रसंग नसता लिहिले । क्षमा केली पाहिजे ॥
This letter from year 1672 sent by Shree Samarth Ramdas Swami to
Shree Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj contents the best portrayal of Maharaj. It
also talks about the social & political situation during that time. As a
Guru – Shree Samarth Ramdas Swami also urge Maharaj to protect the Dharma….
The letter says
‘Great King you have the ability to take the courageous decisions
and remain firm on them, there are so many of us around for whom your are a
great support – you are our guardian, your strong selfless commitment towards
the welfare of people makes you a monk, great king though you are so wealthy just
because of your sacrifices & chosen hardship you are no less than a monk.
You have been so generous and so helpful to others that we
cannot compare your big-heartedness with anyone else of our time, your good
qualities are incredible.
You are successful, you are legendary, you are mighty, you are
powerful, you are always generous & compassionate, you are virtuous, you
have always done good deeds, oh King you are the true ruler who know the real
duties & responsibilities of the ruler and you fulfil them religiously –
you are a sagacious ruler.
You are graceful & perfect in royal etiquettes, you are
thoughtful in all the situations, you unconditionally bestow wealth & help
to needy ones, you are pious, you are highly knowledgeable and humble.
You are a true leader of people, you truly deserve all your possessions
of prosperity let it be your royal elephant or wealth, you are the victor who
has won & built the forts on land, mountain & ocean. The Goddess of
power Shakti has blessed you and made you powerful.
You have great patience, you are courageous & generous and
you are elegant, we appreciate your wisdom & sincerity. You are brave and
never hesitate in taking onus, action & responsibility, your alertness is
supreme.
Oh King…. The religious places of Hindus are being destroyed by
invaders, the spiritual & unarmed Hindu sages are being tortured by these
enemies of mankind, our own motherland is becoming an alien land for Hindus. Is
this the end of our eternal sanatan Dharma?
You must protect our heritage, cows – temples & sages are
the symbol of our culture protect them – you are here to protect all of us, you
are the protector of our ancient Dharma. The almighty – supreme god – Narayan
who resides within us is giving inspiration to you and me.
You have all of them in your royal court – the wise councilors,
spiritual mentors, poets, policy makers, religious pious men. They are astute,
they are capable. However there is no one who can protect our Dharma – whatever
of our Dharma is left – it is just surviving because of only you.
Under your protection our religious activities are still going
on – where will we all go without you. We admire you for this and you are
famous because of this. All over the world people appreciate you because of
this.
You have destroyed so many enemies of our society, and there are
so many enemies still there they have no courage to fight with you, oh king of
people – there are so many innocent people who are happily living in your
shelter. Oh sagacious king you are a godly lifesaver of public, in your rule
common public has become prosperous & joyous.
I am staying in your kingdom however we did not get an
opportunity to meet so far, as if we have forgotten our spiritual connection
with each other, I don’t know why.
What should I tell you – you know & understand everything.
You must successfully maintain the responsibility of protecting &
reestablishing our Dharma, do everything possible to achieve this goal. Do not
get distracted due to non worthy internal disputes which may deviate you from your
auspicious path and hence I thought of reminding you of your ultimate purpose
& duty. Forgive me for my uncalled advice.
श्री समर्थ रामदास स्वामी यांनी श्री छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांना सन
1672 मध्ये लिहिलेलं हे पत्र, यात महाराजांचे सर्वोत्तम चित्रण आहे. त्या काळातील सामाजिक
स्थिति बद्दल हि आपल्याला यातून कल्पना मिळते. गुरु श्री समर्थ रामदास स्वामी महाराजांना
त्यांच्या धर्मसंरक्षणाच्या कर्तव्याचे स्मरण करून देतात.
पत्र
' हे महान राजा, तुझ्याकडे कठोर निर्णय घेण्याची आणि त्यांच्यावर दृढ
राहण्याची क्षमता आहे, लाखो जणांचा तू आधार आहेस, रयतेचा तू पालक आहेस. निस्वार्थी
वृत्तीने राज्य करणारा परोपकारी असा राजा - मला तू वैराग्यवृत्तीचा आणि सर्व ऐश्वर्याने
संपन्न असणारा श्रीमंत योगीच वाटतो.
तू इतरांवर अगणित उपकार केलेले आहेस, तुझ्या गुणांची तुलना कुणी करावी
? अतुलनीय गुणवंत असा तू महान सदगुणी राजा आहेस.
यशस्वी आणि पराक्रमी तर तू आहेसच पण अति सामर्थ्यशाली असूनही तू अत्यंत
उदार आणि कृपाळू आहेस. सतचरित्राचा नीतिमान राजा - तूला रयतेच्या सुख दुःखांची जाण
आहे - हे राजा तू एक जाणता राजा आहेस.
सर्वोत्तम आचारांचा, अत्यंत विचारशील राजा तू अत्यंत दानशूर आहेस धार्मिक
आहेस. अत्यंत ज्ञानी असूनही नम्रपणे तू सगळ्याची मने जिंकून घेतोस.
हत्ती बाळगणाऱ्या, वीर पुरुषांच्या नेत्या - सर्व ऐश्वर्य लक्षणे तुला
शोभून दिसतात - उलट तुझ्या मुळेच त्यांना शोभा येते. जमीन, डोंगर आणि समुद्र या सर्वांवर
तू गड किल्ले बांधून अधिपत्य स्थापित केले आहेस. किल्ले जिंकून घेणाऱ्या राजा - शक्ती
देवतेने तुला वर देउन सामर्थ्यसंपन्न केले आहे.
पराक्रमी निर्भीड आणि उदार राजा, तू सदैव कर्तव्यपरायण असतोस, कधीही
निष्क्रिय नसतोस. तुझ्या सावधपणामुळे तुझे यश वाढले आहे.
आपली पवित्र तीर्थक्षेत्रे उध्वस्त केली जात आहेत, धर्मपरायण लोकांचा
छळ केला जातो आहे. आपलीच मातृभूमी आपल्या प्राचीन सनातन धर्माला पारखी होते कि काय
अशी परिस्थिती आहे.
हे राजा - आपल्या धर्माचे
रक्षण कर, गो
ब्रह्मण प्रतिपालक राजा तुझ्या
आणि माझ्या हृदयात
बसणारा नारायण आपल्याला हीच
प्रेरणा देतो आहे.
तुझ्या कडे गुणी
लोकांची कमी नाही,
तुझ्या दरबारात अनेक शूर,
विद्वान, धर्मपंडित, राजकारणधुरंदर लोक
आहेत. पण या
जगात मला तुझ्या
सारखा इतर कुणीही
दिसत नाही हो
आपल्या धर्माचे रक्षण करेल.
जो काही आपला
महान धर्म राहिला
आहे तो केवळ
तुझ्याच मुळे.
तुझ्या मुळेच थोडेफार धर्मकृत्य
इथे चालू आहे,
तुझ्या आश्रयाने अनेक जण
सुरक्षित आहेत. म्हणूनच तुझी
कीर्ती सगळीकडे पसरत आहे.
तू अनेक शत्रूंचा
संहार केलास. आणि
अनेकांना तुझा धाक
बसवलास. भोळीभाबडी जनता तुझ्या
संरक्षणाखाली सुरक्षित आहे. रयतेचे
भले करणाऱ्या राजा
तू शिवकल्याण राजा
आहेस.
तुझ्या राज्यात राहूनही आज
पर्यंत आपण भेटलो
नाही - आपण आपले
जुने ऋणानुबंध विसरलो
कि काय कोण
जाणे - आपण भेटले
पाहिजे.
तू सर्व जाणतोस
- तुला काय सांगायचे?
धर्मसंरक्षणची
आपली जबाबदारी सर्वोपरी
आहे ती कधीच
दुय्यम होऊ देऊ
नको. तुझ्या आजूबाजूला
अखंड राजकारण चालूच
राहणार पण त्यामुळे
तुझा मार्ग भटकू
देऊ नकोस - न
मागता उपदेश केल्या
बद्दल क्षमा असावी.
